The 7th International Sun Boat Symposium

The 7th International Sun Boat Symposium

In a creative moment that transcends geographical boundaries and dissolves linguistic barriers, the seventh edition of the "Solar Boats" International Visual Arts Forum concluded in Giza (October 10–16, 2026). The event served as an exceptional affirmation that Egypt remains—as it has always been—a crossroads of cultures and a cradle of human creativity throughout the ages.
In the shadow of the timeless Giza Pyramids, 25 visual artists gathered, representing 22 countries from across the globe: Morocco, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Romania, the Congo, Singapore, Spain, Germany, France, Argentina, India, South Korea, Iran, Croatia, Mexico, Montenegro, the Dominican Republic, Bangladesh, Italy, and Sweden, alongside a distinguished group of Egyptian visual artists.
A Dialogue of Colors in the Shadow of History
The forum was far more than a mere series of workshops or conventional artistic practices; it was a vibrant experience in which the contributions of contemporary artists intertwined with the majestic legacy of ancient Egyptian civilization. Standing before the pyramids, the artists drew inspiration from the spirit of the site and the depth of its history, transforming the location into an open platform for human and cultural dialogue and interaction. The closing exhibition was inaugurated by Professor Ibrahim Ghazala—a professor of painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Minia University—in the presence of the forum’s founder, artist Ismail Bakr, alongside prominent figures from the worlds of art and culture. The events unfolded in a celebratory atmosphere that underscored the academic and artistic significance of this international gathering.
The Closing Exhibition: Manifestations of Diversity and Creativity
The artistic event culminated in a closing exhibition showcasing works created during the workshops. The gallery space was transformed into a vibrant garden, rich with a diverse array of colors and artistic schools. The exhibited pieces ranged from oil and acrylic paintings to works rooted in contemporary artistic styles. While each piece reflected the cultural background and personal experience of its creator, collectively they wove a unified human tapestry—demonstrating that art serves as the most authentic bridge for communication between peoples.
The closing ceremony included a tribute to the participating artists, who were presented with certificates of appreciation and awards in recognition of their valuable contributions to the success of the seventh edition, and in celebration of the creative spirit that permeated the entire forum.
Art as Soft Power and a Message of Peace
The significance of the "Solar Boats" (Marakib al-Shams) forum extends beyond that of a mere art exhibition; it highlights the role of the visual arts as a cornerstone of Egypt’s "soft power" and a vital tool for promoting cultural tourism. Hosting an international group of distinguished artists in Egypt enables these creators to convey their impressions and direct cultural experiences back to their own societies through their artwork and cross-cultural engagement. As for the name "Solar Boats"—with all the connotations it carries regarding renewal, journeys, and setting forth in ancient Egyptian civilization—it continues to convey its timeless message: that creativity has the power to bring people closer together, and that Egypt will always remain a "vessel" sailing through the realms of culture and art toward horizons defined by peace and human affection.
