The Other Side of Things

The Other Side of Things

In Solidarity with Gaza and Celebration of Creativity: "Journey of a Life" and "Another Side of Things" Exhibitions Open at the Mahmoud Mokhtar Center
Under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, the Fine Arts Sector—led by Dr. Mahmoud Hamed—launched two art exhibitions yesterday evening, Monday, October 12, 2026, at the Mahmoud Mokhtar Cultural Center: "Journey of a Life" by artist Nahla El-Saadani (Isis Hall) and "Another Side of Things" by Dr. Doaa El-Desouky (Nahda Misr Hall).
The opening was attended by Naji El-Naji, Acting Head of the Palestinian Embassy in Egypt; writers Salwa Bakr and Ikram Youssef; Dr. Mai El-Telmissany; Shaimaa Abu Zeid, Director of the Mahmoud Mokhtar Cultural Center; and a large gathering of artists, intellectuals, and fine art enthusiasts.
The exhibited works transport visitors into profound creative and philosophical realms, reflecting the richness and diversity of the Egyptian fine art movement.
In a gesture embodying the humanitarian and social mission of art, the launch of the exhibitions coincided with the anniversary of the glorious October 6th Victory and the ongoing, tragic events unfolding in the Gaza Strip.
In a statement posted at the exhibition entrance, Dr. Doaa El-Desouky announced that 10% of the sales proceeds would be donated to the children of Gaza through the Egyptian Red Crescent. In her remarks, Dr. Doaa emphasized: "Art has never been a mere luxury; rather, it is our form of soft resistance and the voice we turn to when words fail to express what we feel. It is our affirmation that life goes on, despite everything. I hope your presence here serves as a message of solidarity with those who sacrificed their lives... for through colors we tell our stories, through art we resist, and through our very presence, we affirm that we are still here."

The exhibition runs until October 18, 2026.
Join us to discover how the artist perceives the "other side" of the everyday objects we see constantly.
